Summer Marketing Ideas | Here Comes The Sun

by | May 29, 2019 | Branding

It seems like only yesterday that we were tidying the Winter away and putting everything in to place for our Spring marketing plans.

Now, we are heading towards June, it is time to consider the Summer months and how you will be taking control of potential opportunities over the warmest and busiest season of the year.

Summertime is jam-packed with events, festivals, picnics, walks and charity fundraisers — let’s look at some new (and old) ideas that will help you to take advantage of the sun and ensure that everyone is on board with what you and your business are up to.

Key dates

• Father’s Day | 16th June 2019
• FIFA Women’s World Cup France | 7th June – 7th July 2019
• Wimbledon | 1st July – 14th July 2019
• Clacton Air Show | 22th and 23th August 2019
• Fresher’s Week | Late Summer

Community events

“Many hands make light work” – John Heywood

Summer is the perfect time to give something back. See if you can lend a helping hand with local (or national) fundraising — maybe a mud run or marathon to raise money for a good cause? Sponsorships, donations and gifts could help too.

If your business can help make someones dreams a reality… jump at the chance. Businesses that are helpful to the communities they work in will benefit in the long run and become part of something much bigger than themselves.

“A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away” – Eudora Welty

Keep it seasonal and have fun! Take full advantage of the great natural lighting and happy summertime faces. With so much going on over the coming months, make sure to always have your camera (or phone) to hand to capture moments as they unfold.

Time for afternoon ice-creams, days out, games, bright colours and contented teams. Photographs will never stop offering value to your business. Start now and begin to collect and document moments — your future self will be delighted that you did.

Summer uniform

“Incorporating work uniforms into your business can help to build team spirit, boost morale and is often the key to successful teamwork” – Positive Branding, London

We all love the comfort of our winter garments but Summer uniform calls for t-shirts, shorts, polo shirts, cool tops, caps and sunglasses. A comfortable employee is a happy employee. Keep things fresh by changing the look of your team’s workwear with the seasons.

Custom sportswear is perfect for taking part in marathons, fun-runs and sports days. Let people make the connection between your brand and all of the good things you are doing for your community.

Summer staff parties

“People work for money but go the extra mile for recognition, praise and rewards” – Dale Carnegie

Teams that celebrate together, stay together. Summer is packed with workplace celebrations, parties and ceremonies to reward and thank the people who have made it all happen.

If you haven’t arranged a get-together, it could be something to consider. You can document your day for your blog and social media platforms whilst creating memories that will motivate your team long after the event has ended.

Create special trophies, personalised certificates, medals and awards to treat your staff for their hard work and continued effort and enthusiasm. Personalised invites, branded welcome packs (with anything you wish inside), seating plans, banners, balloons and selfie boards give a personal touch without breaking the budget. It’s the thought that counts.

Let’s talk print

“85% of consumers agree that the quality of the print indicates quality of services” – FedEx Office

Whether your next print project is big or small— it will make an impact. Brighten up spaces with PVC banners and large format posters, or make your packages and mail a little more exciting with mini branded stickers or custom sticky tape.

For special events and promotions, create a postcard, leaflet or selection of custom promotional magnets to reinforce your campaign and offer something a little bit different.

With all of the exciting networking events and exhibitions waiting around the corner, having a folder full of high-quality printed information is only going to set you up for success. Always be prepared.

Retail graphics

“Window displays alone influence 24% of purchases” – NPD Group

How’s your business ‘looking’ for Summer? What displays need updating? What is feeling more ‘Spring’ than ‘Summer’? Match your posters, point of sale material, lighting, displays and advertising banners to the seasonal mindset of the customer. Keep your colours bright and tropical, as well as your marketing message.

Direct mail campaigns

“79% of consumers act on direct mail, compared to 45% on e-mail” – DMA

Sales, offers, new products — summer has it all. Direct mail campaigns allow businesses to work with a timeless format that is familiar, yet unique in today’s speedy digital world.

Whether it be with a one-piece mailer, postcard, product catalogue or a humble letter to your customers (or potential customers), you are able to draw attention to your business with ease by literally placing your brand directly into their hands.

“Since 2010 tourism has been the fastest growing sector in the UK in employment terms. Britain is forecast to have a tourism industry worth over £257 billion by 2025” – Visit Britain

Make sure you communicate with your local tourist information centres and supply them with up-to-date print materials and information about your business. It could be even better to gift a selection of branded canvas bags for tourists to take with them. Creating a walking advert for your business while visitors explore the local area.

Hotels, restaurants, pubs and attractions are all destinations that need to secure their place on the map. Be certain that you are making the most of all local listings and guides (online and offline) so everyone knows where to find you. A summer events poster at your local train station or tourist board could be the difference between fully booked, and not.

If you’re near the seaside (like us) branded towels, beach balls, picnic blankets, cool bags, reusable cutlery, water bottles, coffee cups and straws can be a really nice addition to offer your guests ahead of a family day at the beach.

For our friends in the hospitality industry

“Give travelers an extra compelling reason to choose your hotel for their vacation with a special summer-related offer” – Trivago

Why not launch a selection of special limited edition Summer drinks and cocktails, sunny menus and special events for lighter evenings — make the most of the outdoor spaces you have. Everyone wants to feel like they have a fun-filled Summer schedule — give them plenty to look forward to.

Get the most out of your Summer marketing and ensure you are set up for Autumn! When your team are comfortable and content, your customers are properly informed and you know where you are going — the possibilities are endless.
